Frequently Asked Questions — Anonymous Chat

Find answers to common questions about Anonymous Chat — how it works, privacy, safety, and getting the most from random text chat.

Is Anonymous Chat really anonymous?
Yes. No accounts, no usernames, no personal data required. You appear as "Stranger" to your partner, and they appear as "Stranger" to you. No data that could identify you is shared with other users.
Do I need to register an account?
No registration at all. Click Start and you're immediately in the queue. No email, no phone, no password — nothing to sign up for.
Can the other person see my IP address or location?
No. Your IP address is known only to our server for routing purposes and is never shared with other users. The person you're chatting with sees only "Stranger." They have no technical way to discover your IP or location from the chat interface.
Are my chat messages recorded?
No. Messages exist in browser memory during the session only. Our servers relay messages without storing them. When you disconnect, messages are cleared from memory and cannot be retrieved.
Why am I connected to bots sometimes?
Bots exist on any open chat platform that doesn't require accounts. They typically send generic messages, spam links, or repeatedly ask the same questions. Use the Skip button to move on — bots cannot maintain coherent conversation, and engaging with them is usually a waste of time.
How does the random matching work?
When you click Start, you enter a queue. The server pairs the first available user with the next available user — pure randomness, no filters, no algorithms, no compatibility scoring. Matches typically happen in under 3 seconds.
Can I filter by gender, age, or location?
No. Anonymous Chat is intentionally filter-free. You get a completely random stranger. This unpredictability is part of the experience — occasionally you meet someone fascinating from somewhere unexpected.
What should I do if I encounter harassment?
Use the Skip button immediately and then use the Report button to flag the user. Do not engage or respond. Our moderation team reviews reports and takes action against repeat offenders. Trust your instincts — if a conversation feels wrong, leave immediately.
Can I reconnect with someone I liked talking to?
No. The platform has no way to save or recall specific users. Anonymity means there is no persistent identity or friend system. If you want to stay in touch, you'd need to exchange external contact information during the conversation — but be cautious about sharing personal details.
Is Anonymous Chat available on mobile?
Yes. The site is fully responsive and works in any modern mobile browser — Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android. No app download needed. The interface adapts to smaller screens with touch-friendly controls.
Why do some conversations end so quickly?
Most random chat conversations are brief — "hi" exchanges that fizzle out, mismatched communication styles, or someone immediately skipping. This is normal and expected. The platform is designed for brief disposable interactions. A genuinely engaging conversation that lasts minutes or hours is the exception, not the rule.
Is there a way to block specific people?
No block list exists since identities are ephemeral. One user is indistinguishable from another. The Skip button is your primary tool for exiting undesired conversations. If someone repeatedly bothers you across sessions (which is difficult since anonymity resets), report them and our moderation team may IP-ban them.
What browsers are supported?
Anonymous Chat works in all modern browsers with WebSocket and good JavaScript support: Chrome 80+, Firefox 78+, Safari 14+, Edge 80+, and most mobile browsers. Very old browsers without WebSocket are not supported.
Can I use video chat here?
Anonymous Chat is text-only by design — no video or audio support. If you're looking for video chat, consider our sister site AnonVideo which focuses on anonymous video conversation with a similar privacy-first approach.
Why does the site sometimes show "Looking for a partner..." for so long?
Longer wait times mean fewer users are currently online and seeking a chat. This happens during off-peak hours or in less populated regions. Try again later when more users are typically active. The site does not artificially limit connections — it's purely based on user volume.
